Alfama
Alfama é um dos bairros mais antigos de Lisboa, estendendo-se na encosta entre o Castelo de São Jorge e o Rio Tejo. Atualmente, abrange parte da freguesia de Santa Maria Maior e outra parte da freguesia de São Vicente. O seu nome vem do árabe Al-hamma, que significa "fontes quentes" ou "banhos".
Alfama is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Lisbon, spreading on the slope between the São Jorge Castle and the Tejo River. Currently, it covers part of the parish of Santa Maria Maior and another part of the parish of São Vicente. Its name comes from the Arabic Al-hamma, meaning "hot fountains" or "baths".
Escolas Gerais
Escolas Gerais, Santo Estêvão, Alfama, Lisboa. Foi nesta zona da cidade, conhecida com o nome de Escolas Gerais, que funcionou a Universidade de Lisboa, mais concretamente, no Pátio dos Quintalinhos, no Paço do Infante Dom Henrique, antes de ser transferida para Coimbra em 1537, tendo gerado no local os topónimos Escolas Gerais, Rua das Escolas Gerais e Escadinhas das Escolas Gerais.
